Patriotism is more than flags and parades.
Love for a false idol isn’t America, the brave.
Patriots stand with a fist in the air
fighting for a society equitable and fair.
We understand that a country can’t be great
until it releases the grip of hate,
heals the wounds of the oppressed,
and reparations pay its debts.
Patriotism is sweat on a brow
working for a future that’s better than the now.
It’s the zeal to dissent,
and the warm embrace of immigrants.
It’s the courage to think freely;
to not bow to a tyrant, bitter and demeaning.
Patriotism has a revolutionary hue.
It’s a love for all people, We the People, me and you.
