I'm a Writer, Not a Marketer!
I'm starting a 5th project, because I'm not busy enough, apparently. :)
I'll release a monthly newsletter on the last Sunday of every month in 2026. Each issue will include a summary of some of the biggest political news in the US for the previous month, along with how people can Stand Up and Fight Back in big and small ways. Depending on what's going on, I might also do a peek forward at things that will happen in the coming month and how people can engage on those specific issues in advance. I hope for the output to become more frequent with time, but I want to give myself plenty of wiggle room in the beginning.
I published my first edition yesterday. It was way longer than the monthly issues should be since it was a whole year-long summary, but I really enjoyed writing it. The design was sort of stressful, but even that was super gratifying when it started to come together how I wanted it. I'm really stoked to see this thing develop over the next year! I love the idea of helping people figure out how they can join the fray. If it helps just a handful of people, it'll totally be worth it! Imagine how many people those people will convince, and how it could ripple out from there!!
But here comes the hard part: marketing.
I've shared it with some friends and family, but most of those people aren't actually interested. It's honestly disappointing how few of my loved ones care about 1.) joining the resistance to fascism and 2.) supporting me as a writer. So I have to get this thing in front of strangers—people who actually want to see it. And how the heck do I do that?? Beehiiv has a "boost" feature where other writers recommend your newsletter and you pay them based on how many active subscribers you get from it. It just feels weird. Disingenuous. I'm not a marketer, and marketing strategies often don't feel right to me. I don't know if I'll boost. I think I will get some bumper stickers made though. :)
